Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, Germany
While we were still in the States planning for our vacation in Germany, the first tourist spot we wanted to go to was the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, Germany. I saw a bunch of videos online and made me think I wanted to ride a cable car over the Rhine River, that would be awesome. So, when my husband asked me where I wanna go, I said the Deutsches Eck.

So we took the train from Kaiserslautern to Koblenz, but it wasn’t a direct trip. We had to get off at the Bingen train station to wait for the connecting train going directly to Koblenz. While waiting it was windy and chilly but also sunny. I was so confident when we left the hotel that the weather was good, but, not! We were standing at the train platform and I was shivering. We probably waited 10-15 minutes.
The Trip to Koblenz
Anyway, the train to Koblenz was full! There were no vacant seats, so we stood the entire 40-minute trip. But, it was fine though because the view was wonderful. We took videos of the castles on top of the hills, the German houses, and grape vines along the way.
Approaching Koblenz, we saw the beautiful Rhine River while the train was moving. It was a beautiful sight to remember.
When the train arrived in Koblenz, instead of taking the bus to Deutsches Eck, we walked. Speaking of walking, if the place is walkable, why not walk? It’s a good workout and the best way to explore especially in another country. There were so many cafes and restaurants along the way to Deutsches Eck. We stopped in one of the restaurants that wasn’t busy and sat down for our brunch. Then we continue to walk heading to the Deutsches Eck.

Koblenz City
Oh dear, there’s a mall! We had to go inside and check it out, and had to go to the bathroom too. It was beautiful and huge. We brought some coats for me and my husband. The coats we were wearing in these photos were brought from this mall. For some reason, I have never thought of taking a picture of the mall. I was just staring at it while admiring it.
Koblenz City Center is a very busy and lively area. No need to worry when getting hungry, tired, or thirsty when you’re visiting. Food and amenities were in this place. From Forum Mittelrhein mall to Deutsches Eck was around 20 minutes walk. We stopped a lot to take pictures. If you want to come here, wear comfortable shoes because you’re going to be walking on cobblestones.
Deutsches Eck
We reached Deutsches Eck and thanks goodness, the sun was still up. But, still cold! When we entered the promenade there weren’t a lot of people, but further down to the monument was definitely a busy place.

I first took notice of the flower garden at the eck. Of course, as a flower lover, I had to take a bunch of photos. Angle here and there. Then, I noticed visitors were flocking in. I saw my husband busy taking photos too of the river. I had to stop taking pictures of the flowers and catch up to my husband.

Deutsches Eck has beautiful gardens. There were so many beautiful flowers when we were there. If you’re a flower lover, don’t skip the gardens when you visit here. Generally, every place we go to in Germany, there are always beautiful gardens.
Aside from relaxing gardens, there were also food and amenities here. It’s a fun place to be. You can take leisure walks here with your dog, ride a bike, enjoy the picturesque view of the river, have drinks, and just relax, or take a cable car ride to the fortress. And, that’s what exactly we did next.

Koblenz Cable Car
We took the cable car to visit the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. The aerial view of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers was spectacular. It was a wonderful feeling to see with our own eyes. It was the best decision to come up here.

First, it takes about 3-4 minutes to reach the Ehrenbreitstein Plateau; afterward, it’s just a minute or two walk to the fortress. The tickets for the cable car ride are available for purchase on the other side of the promenade and are good for a round-trip ride.
Fortress Plateau
The photo below is the Fortress Plateau, an ideal destination for leisure walks, picnics, and relaxation. As you can see the people here are just walking. Far back were people just sitting and relaxing. My husband sitting on the bench waiting for me while I photographed the flowers. Yes, more flowers! There are flower gardens here up here too! Flower enthusiasts like me will be delighted to find stunning gardens in this area. Don’t miss to walk around the plateau. This place is also perfect for capturing photos, recording videos, and admiring the vibrant blooms.

Ehreinbreitstein Fortress
The fortress is massive. Inside, were full of history. There are exhibits about its military and cultural history, interesting art displays, and relics from the past. Portraits of notable people who had a story attached to the fortress were displayed on one of the aisles inside. There was so much to see inside, but we didn’t have much time to explore everything. We proceeded to the fortress’ courtyard next.

Panoramic Views from the Fortress’ Courtyard
Below is the magnificent view from the upper courtyard of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. It is the perfect spot for taking panoramic photos of the Deutsches Eck and a clear view of the merging rivers of Moselle and Rhine, and the picturesque landscapes of the surrounding area. The air up here was very fresh too.

You can watch our cable car ride experience going back down to Deutsches Eck in the video below.
