A Short Trip to Bad Durkheim, Germany

Our short trip to Bad Durkheim Germany was such a fun and awesome experience for both of us. We took the train there from Kaiserslautern. After we got off the train we looked for a bus going to the wine barrel restaurant.

My husband looked on the app to see what time the bus schedule was going to the restaurant. But the bus schedule is twenty minutes away. So, he looked online if it was far away. But it’s not. It’s only fifteen minutes from the bus station if we walk. So we decided to just walk so we could explore the surroundings. Good thing it’s not too cold. The weather is perfect. We used Google Maps for the directions so that we could find the place we were going to. And, yes you can use Google Maps for walking directions.

Anyway, along the way we passed a lot of gardens. Gardens here and there. Flowers left and right. European flowers are stunningly different. As a flower lover, of course, I was happy. Fortunately, my husband always likes to walk when we visit new places – that’s a part of his adventurous personality. No complaints here and looks like this short trip to Bad Durkheim is going to be fun. So many flowers, I just want to stay there for a while. My husband can’t do anything but watch me take pictures after pictures.  But, bummer it getting cloudy and looks like it’s going to rain.

Close to one of the gardens, we found love locks next to a short bridge in Bad Durkheim. Love locks is a tradition in some of the attractions and cities in Germany and other parts of Europe.

When we got close to the keg restaurant, it was already drizzling. Fortunately, we got in and had a table right away.

Someone recommended us here and that there is an English menu, but there isn’t. We asked the server, their menu is only in German. Good thing my husband can speak German. He ordered Schnitzel with french fries, then I ordered also Schnitzel along with spaetzle then salad for both of us. I didn’t eat my salad because I was already full.

The purpose of our short trip here in Bad Durkheim is to try different types of wine because every train travels, we always see the sign of wine festival in this town. But we didn’t even get a chance to try any kind of wine because we were too full. I noticed though, a few people going to the restaurant buying bottled wines and beverages to go. But because I wanted to go again to the other gardens we missed, I didn’t wanna carry anything heavy.

When we left the restaurant it was raining already. Close to the restaurant was an ice cream shop and I had their ice cream for dessert even though it was cold and raining. I was the only one who had the ice cream because my husband is not an ice cream kind of guy. After I finished the ice cream, of course, I had chills as we walked back to the train station, lol. We didn’t go back to the garden I wanted to go because it seemed like the rain was pouring hard. So we just went another way, heading to the train station.

Along the way, I couldn’t use my DSLR camera because it might get wet in the rain. I only brought one camera on this trip aside from my phone. So I used my phone and the quality was not that good but it served its purpose. We wandered around the alleys and those cobblestone alleys were so pretty and houses with flower box windows. This town is a fairytale. I love this town already – quaint and charming.

Then I noticed that we were already in the square, in front of the train station. So that’s it, a mini adventure in this beautiful town. If it wasn’t raining, we could have wandered more.

Was visiting Bad Durkheim worth it?

It certainly was! Even though we were there only for a short period, we enjoyed a lot. As I stated above, I took a bunch of photos. If you want to see more of them, you can follow us on our social media.
